There are those of us who somehow are not in a position to volunteer on such a grand scale, but want to support. There are two ways to do this.
First way is to donate to your local Habitat Restore Store. They accept leftover building materials, furniture, accessories, nearly anything you might have that is usable by another person. Every time I enter the McKinney Restore Store I am amazed what I find in the vast warehouse! I can't stop myself from looking up and down every isle to see what I can see. Knowing people and businesses donate every item makes me feel proud of my community.
The second way that I prefer to participate in this wave of generousity!? I SHOP. I spend my money to help build the homes for deserving families. How can a shopping trip at the Restore Store be wrong? So many of the items are much cheaper than regular retail stores. If it is the same price, well, where is the money going? It is worth it to spend there rather than the big box hardware stores.
There is another advantage to the Restore Store. There are the regular run of the mill sinks, washers, doors, shutters, tile, self adhesive tile, weird moulding, beds, sofas and artwork. If you are looking for something out of the ordinary -- for example a tanning bed or light bulbs the size of your head -- The Retore Store is your place.
So, consider your next shopping experience at Habitat Restore Store as a community service. It puts a whole new spin on spending your money.
