Everyone has their favorite mop. Some are big Swiffer fans, others just a regular mop. Living in a small space with minimal storage and to stop adding to landfills; I have invented my own style mop. I have been making these for years and they are FANTASTIC! I sew them from left over tea, hand & bath towels, but my favorite fabric is left over minky fabric from baby sewing projects.
These easy-sew mops are just a little slipcover for your broom and are safety pinned to stay on as you clean the floor. You can launder them all together and have nothing to throw away. This cover also acts as a dust mop. When placed in the dryer do not use dryer sheets, the static cling helps pick up the dust when you use the mop cover as a dust mop. The ultimate "recycled-broom enhancement". It's easy, good for the environment and makes sense.
Here are the directions for creating your own:
Measure your broom width and height and cut 1" wider than broom, plus 1'" in length
Cut fabric or use existing towel - makes 3-4 (my favorite, since it is recycling)
Fold in half and sew side seams.
Done!
I saftey pin my "broom slip" on to keep it extra tight.
I use a wood cleaner but my husband runs it directly under the faucet. Try it with your favorite product.
I use several when mopping, changing them as they appear soiled - I don't like mopping my floors with dirty fabric. That does not make the floor clean! The covered broom gives you the power to add pressure to a stubborn spot but is also slender to slip into narrow places. It is all you need to clean your floor or even your blinds, ceiling fan, cobwebs in the corners, and even the bathtub tiles--I kid you not!
When I am finished mopping, I just throw them in the laundry. Recycling that stack of old towels just got smarter!
