Note the ornament her daughter made hanging on the tree. Her little hand recreated in felt. How fancy! Those are the biggest memory makers of Christmas past. Who would imagine such a simple thing could evoke so much Christmas joy!
The two large Santas were custom made for her by a local artist, Brian Kidwell of The Toy Maker. He used personal items from her past to create the perfect Santas for her and her Mother.
To me, that is what this time of year is about . . . holding on to the comforting thoughts of years gone by but allowing ourselves the opportunity to create new memories every year (was that an excuse to buy more old, cool junk?). Try to be where you are and enjoy each moment.
Really though, I hope everyone finds some bright spots from their past by looking at these old ornaments. If you don’t have that sort of history to gleen from, allow the possibilities of the small ornaments to warm your heart. They were once, shiny & new and graced the tree or table of some family long ago. I imagine they never dreamed these simple items would become popular collectables 50 years later. Isn’t this time of year just grand?
