![]() Tonight is the night! The Great Food Truck Race premieres tonight @ 8 CT with our local favorites, The Guava Tree. You can watch with Pam & Onel at the Truck Yards! See "Making A Cuban On ‘The Guava Tree’ Food Truck Featured On Food Network" to find out how they make the delicious sandwiches!! And the interview with Onel - 'The Great Food Truck Race' contestant stops by News 8 ![]() Only 3 years in the making & McKinney's local favorite truckstaurant, The Guava Tree, owned by Onel & Pam Perez of McKinney, Texas are making their national television debut Aug 23rd, on Food Network's - The Great Food Truck Race. The Guava Tree will be at the Texas Truck Yard all day & that evening, for a watch party. The hot pink truck is like a beacon calling all foodies to try a whole new eating experience. North Texans need to sample everything on The Guava Tree menu. The style of cooking isn't spicy like typical Latin food. It's fried & fabulous, with generous portions. Just make sure you save a little room for dessert -- the Cuban donuts are CRAZY good! Personally, we "sample" a donut before eating our meals. We like to call this pressert (pre-dessert, a single sampling of dessert before your meal). Austin, Texas is the birth place of the food truck culture that we have come to know & love. We in North Texas need to embrace the landscape & positive impact that food trucks have on cities. Onel & Pam Perez, are in the process of addressing & changing city food truck codes. Recently, Pam petitioned the McKinney City Council to consider reducing the annual permit fees for food trucks from $1000 to $300. They voted yes! Many cities are reluctant to change, thinking the impact might be a problem for brick & mortar eateries. Restaurants + Customers = more money & local interest. That's a win!
